  1. Cathy and I attempted to cross into Canada at St. Stephen, New Brunswick. We were stopped and searched at the border. When a border guard named Bruce and his female counterpart found an entire gram of the dread marijuana, we were escorted to separate holding cells. After 4 1/2 hours they released us saying that the local police had declined to incarcerate us. Further, we were informed that our undeclared liquor had been confiscated. That wasn’t exactly true. What the Canadian Border Patrol folks actually did is confiscate all unopened bottles, declared or not. They also left all opened bottles, declared or not; and for that I am thankful.

We didn’t discover their other confiscation for a few days. Cathy’s mother had passed away last year and we were distributing her ashes along the path of our travels. I believe I know what they thought when they found a whitish powder in a plastic bag in the console of our Tahoe. I hope they got a bone stuck in their nose.

Now think about this for a minute – we aren’t moral enough to enter Canada because we have a gram of pot. And those who enforce that stole our booze and what they thought were drugs. You tell me which of us is going to the hot place.
