  1. HOLMEN — Donald Lawrence Lenox, 59, of Holmen went to his heavenly home, surrounded by his family, Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at Franciscan-Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse. Don was born to Lawrence L. and Doris K. (Hauser) Lenox in La Crosse, Jan. 9, 1951. Following his service in the U.S. Navy, Donald was joined in marriage to Joan Snider on May 1, 1976, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Onalaska, by Pastor James Mumm.

Don retired from Xcel energy after twenty years of service as a maintenance repairman. When loved ones reflect Don’s life, many great memories will come to mind. Don was a people person, always making the next stranger a new friend. He always had a joke ready and his conversation would result in smiles on everyone’s faces. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren. Don had a passion for the outdoors. When fishing season ended, Don could be found either cutting wood for the upcoming winter or hunting whitetail deer. Aside from the aroma of his freshly baked bread, weekends in the fall were reserved for his beloved Packers and Badgers. Other times of the year, you could find Don working (playing) at the farm with man’s best friend, “Cowboy” by his side. Otherwise, he may have been enjoying time with Joan at the cabin in Black River Falls.

Donald is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Wendy (Chad) Gamble of Onalaska, and Lindsay (Bailey Brown) Lenox of Holmen; son, Ben (Nikki Schreiner) Lenox of Onalaska; sisters, Mary (Lorin) Lewis of Holmen, Lorrayne (Herb) French of Onalaska, and Sherry (Kevin) Kessler of Lodi; brothers, Melvin (Janet) and Robert (Linda) Lenox, both of La Crosse; brothers-in-law, John (Mary) Snider of Stoddard, and Jerry (Marie) Snider of La Crosse; and grandchildren, Zachary and Alexander Gamble and Delilah Lenox.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and his parents-in-law, Jack and Ethel Snider. In addition to many family members, Don leaves behind many great friends, whom he cherished every moment with.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Dickinson Family Funeral Home (515 McHugh Road, Holmen), and from 9 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. memorial service Monday at the funeral home. Pastor James Mumm will be officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Please visit http://www.dickinsonfuneralhomes.com to share online condolences. The Lenox family would like to extend a special thanks to the Holmen First Responders, Tri-State Ambulance and the doctors and nurses in the ICU—especially Anne.
