  1. Rathen, Aberdeenshire is a very small village. When I was looking for Cathy’s great grandparent’s graves, I could not find census data for Rathen. Finally, I used Google Earth to count 38 structures in Rathen. After visiting, I know that several of those buildings are barns. We took a cab from Fraserburgh to Rathen to walk the cemetery. After finding the graves and taking pictures of every stone that had a pertinent family name, we called the cab driver to pick us up. While waiting for the cab to arrive, we walked a short distance down a lane and found another graveyard with a ruined church. There we found many more stones with family names associated with Cathy’s ancestors. We also found a plaque telling us that Edvard Grieg’s (think Peer Gynt) great great grandparents were buried. Luck counts too!
