The Hill of Tara was the seat of the high-kings of Ireland from the times of the mythological Fir Bolg and Tuatha Dé Danann. It contains several ancient monuments, passage tombs, remains of hill forts, etc. It has been an important place in Irish history for many centuries and was the site of a major battle in the Rebellion of 1798.
